Half café, half bar, all neighbourhood.
Moonbean started as a coffee cart outside a bike shop on Gertrude Street. Now it’s a long room with a wooden bar, a roaster in the back and a record player that gets louder after five.

A cart and a lot of rain
Maya ran a two-group espresso cart outside a bike shop for a whole Melbourne winter. The regulars kept asking where they could sit down.

The lease next door
When the old wine bar next door closed, Theo had a bar licence and Maya had a queue around the block. It seemed rude not to.
Today
Two menus, one room
Coffee until five, cocktails after, and the same faces on both sides of the counter. We roast on Mondays and change the drinks with the seasons.
“We never wanted to choose between a good flat white and a good martini.”
